Egypt takes part in the opening of the Sixteenth Conference on Climate Change, Mexico

Maged George, Minister of Environment, the Egyptian delegation to the Conference of the Parties to the Sixteenth United Nations Convention on Climate Change, to be held in Cancun, Mexico, during the period from November 29 until December 10, 2010.

Said George in a statement on behalf of the Arab Group at the opening of the conference, stressed the need to contribute to the results of the conference in support of developing countries in their efforts to adapt to climate change, and encourages their voluntary engagement in the international effort to reduce emissions, and include a clear mechanism for implementation of the commitments of developed countries as stipulated in the Convention , particularly with regard to technical and financial support necessary for developing countries.

The Minister stressed in a statement of the Arab Group on the importance of the role of the Mexican presidency in supporting the efforts of States parties to achieve results commensurate with the aspirations of developing countries, and is committed to the principles and foundations of the United Nations Convention on Climate Change, in particular the principle of shared responsibility with varying burdens and unequal capacities, thereby contributing to the support and development of the system the current world to address climate change.

For its part, confirmed the Mexican Foreign Minister reiterated the commitment to Mexico as President of the Conference to achieve a balanced outcome in the negotiating tracks, and work on the continuation of the Kyoto Protocol, negotiated in the framework of transparency and participation of all parties.
